The Americans finally realized that they had an 90mm anti-aircraft gun comparable in performance to the famed German 88 and developed ammunition for it to use in the anti-tank role. The first vehicle to effectively mount this gun was the Jackson, which used the M10 or Sherman chassis with an upgraded gun and turret. The Jackson combines the usual weak tank-destroyer armor with a weapon that is sure to get the attention of even the most powerful German Tanks once the HVAP rounds become available late in 44 and 1945. Purists will note that the American 90L51 was actually comparable in muzzle velocity to the 88mm gun mounted on the Tiger I rather than the later 88L71 mounted on the Tiger II, which has similar stats in the game. However, by late 44, raw material shortages were causing the Germans to have trouble producing the the most effective types of anti-tank ammunition, while the Americans had no such problems. Hence the performance of the gun mounted on this vehicle is comparable to that on the Tiger II.
