HISTORICON 2009

I unfortunately did not attend the whole convention, so I am dependent on others for pictures. Fortunately, Pete Landry sent some from some games that he and Mike Sincavage ran.

Non-breakthrough at Pless

An armor-heavy German force attack a Polish trench line. Even though Kurt Kramer warned the Germans not to go into the woods, the German commander decided to use a 'covered' approach for his tanks. After the armored force was decimated, the game resulted in a quick Polish victory.

Into the woods	Into the woods they go.
Predictable Result	The expected results of unsupported armor attacking trench works in woods...ouch. Maybe the German commander learned not to do it in the next game!

Last charge of the Savoia

Italian cavalry vs Russians. Pete says they completed 8 of 12 turns, and the game was declared a draw leaning towards the Italians as the Savoia should have taken two of three objectives and a good shot at the third.

Clearing the first village	After clearing resistance from the first village, the mounted cavalry reorganize for the advance.
Cavalry spreads out	Luckily the Russian mortars were very bad shots, but the cavalry learned quickly to spread out and not form in Napoleonic formations.
Streching the flank	The cavalry start to pressure the Russians by stretching the flank.
Attacking the second village	Two companies of the Savoia charge toward the village while one makes a sweeping flanking maneuver.
Cavalry dismounts to attack	The dismounted company adds its weight in the attack on the village.

Orsha

I want to thank Steven Lee for these photos of Mike and Pete's Orsha game. Heavy metal on the board (was the Thor actually used in the game)?
