Battlefront WWII Forum Passwords

We are now running a forum version that requires login accounts

A recent upgrade to forum software changed the security scheme needed to prevent spam. While it is a bit clumsier than the graphic confirmation that we used earlier, it is unfortunately necessary, because as soon we brought the new version up, we were immediately attacked by spammers. You will be able to read the forum without logging in, but to post a new message or reply to a thread, you will need to log in. While nominally simple, this process has had a bit more trouble than I would have expected

To create a userid, look at the forum list (not the forum itself forum) and you will see a very small "Log In" link near the top. Also, if you display a thread, while you are not logged in, you will see a log-in area near the bottom of your screen. Once you log in, you can post new messages.

Of course the first time you do this, you will not have a userid. Just above the password entry area is a small link that says "Need a login? Register here".

This screen requires that you enter the characters you see in the "nospam confirmation" graphic to continue - this is designed to stop automated scripts from creating spammer passwords.

Enter a username of your choice and your email address. A random password will be sent to you via email and you can use it to log in and post.

The first password you get will be random (the one it gave to me was "83a961"-since changed of course). However, you can change this to something more rational. After you successfully login, you will see a "My Profile" link next to the "Log Out" link. Go in here and "Edit Profile" to change your password.

Some comments on the new process
  1. The username does not seem to be case sensitive, but it doesn't hurt to be consistent. It does not like leading or embedded spaces. Trailing spaces seem to be ok for the username. It is probably best to choose a short username that cannot be mistyped.
  2. The password IS case sensitive. Also, it doesn't like leading, trailing and embedded spaces. (this might be a problem if you copied/pasted it from the email you received).
  3. There are two symptoms for the log in failure. One is obvious, as it takes you to a screen that says that the username and password don't match. The other is not, as it just redisplays the screen after blanking out the username/password. However, if you still see a "Log In" link or a form asking for your password, your log in did not work.
  4. The "remember" feature of the log in doesn't seem to work.
  5. For some reason, it sometimes takes two tries to log out.

If it doesn't work-contact me

Several people have contacted me to say that they have created userids but have been unable to log in with them using the specified process. If this happens to you, send me an email at Contact@FireAndFury.com with your desired userid. I will create a temporary password locally, try it on my machine and email it to you.
