| Battlefront:WWII Technical Notes and Acknowledgements |
This website was developed using Allaire's Homesite 4.5. It was tested against both Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape's Navigator 4.08, I made a deliberate decision not to use all of the bells and whistles available under MSIE and Netscape, but attempted to keep the site and code as generic as possible, to validate and use standard HTML constructs, and to avoid the complexities of the "browser wars" whereever possible. The site does use Javascript, and some of the neater features of the site require it. If you are using the MSIE 4+ or Navigator 4+ and you encounter problems, please send me an email through the webmaster mail link below. I will fix as soon as I can. Also, if you are using a browser other than MSIE and Netscape, and you encounter problems, please let me know and I will attempt to fix it, but without the same urgency :-).
As a beginning web developer, I want to acknowledge the help I received from my web hosting service www.worldwidemart.com, whose system administrator puts up with my annoying questions with good humor and patience. I would recommend them strongly to anyone who wants an inexpensive and reliable webhosting service. They also are the host for Matt's Script Archive, which is an excellent source of free PERL scripts.
I have started using PHP and MySQL for many of the pages. I recommend that webmasters look at this combination as a method of constructing dynamic web pages with minimal fuss and bother. The forum software is available for free download, and ZEND is an excellent source of free scripts.
I want to acknowledge the www.bignosebird.com site, which is a prime source of information on web development techniques and a good source of free scripts. While their site does not use PHP, it is an excellent source of PERL scripts, free graphics, and general info on how to develop websites. If you are just learning about web design, check out bignosebird (they even explain their name).
If you have it on your site, check out PHP!!! It is a very easy way to do interactive scripts and provide database support
I would also like to thank Ralph Nelson for getting me started.
If there are any other amateur web designers out there who want to trade links and techniques, feel free to contact me.
